I would love to join this group, however I work fulltime and do most of my knitting in the evenings,  if you could send me some patterns for premmies and blankets I would donate.
I also crochet my left over wool into squares, they are quite big but single and normally I crochet them together, what would you like, do we donate the completed squares for someone to make a complete blanket or completed the blanket and then donate. At the moment I have a number of square of all different colours .

I have been donating some knitted items through one of your members Debbie Fisher.  I have just found a business that sells wool online and have cheap clearance specials, I thought some of your members may be interested in it.  www.knittingyarnshop.com.au

Happy knitting everyone.

I am trying to find an organisation for my grandma to donate her knitted beanies for babies. She currenly sends them to her local hospital in Logan but they have been rude in the past and so she would prefer to donate them to a charity that doesn't make a profit from her items. Also, I have been told she wants to feel appreciated - do you send thank u's in return?

Thankyou for your praise, I have been a member for a long time now. Karen and Peter are two of the most giving people I know, she inspires a group of people to realise that there are others who are worse off than we are.  The whole group is a giving group and I love them all.
My name is Bunty I live in Beenleigh, I am a carer for my Husband and am addicted to 'Knitting' [and a little bit of Crochet]. I organise a Knit and Natter at Beenleigh Library where a group of us meet once a month to Knit and Natter and show and Tell and also to take our Donations for Karen. We love what we do and we share what we can.
I am so pleased that Karen can help your people at the hostel. thankyou for posting on our Website.

Hi everyone, what a great work I've kept in contact with Karen and her husband to help the people we support. It's been a great blessing to us and it's helped so many off our client. All our client live in the Hostel and most of the time they don't have the money to buy clothes and food. I hope this great work continues, greatest blessing to everyone involved. Thanks, Paul Gabriel-metta.

Thank you for your Query.
With Blankets we make whatever sizes that will come in useful, Knee Rugs to bigger Blankets. it is hard to give you a size exact, I will do my best, lol.
Your squares are roughly 4inches square so I would make a blanket 5 squares by 5 squares, [20 Inches] would make a Knee Rug, the more you add the bigger the blanket. I hope that helps, we accept all sizes, we even accept the squares, and one of our Members would put them together.
Thanks again.

Thank you for your Question on "Knitting for Brisbanes Needy' web site, unfortunately we can't help you.
Everything that is made by our Members stays in Australia. We are a non profit group of caring people who
work on Donations, or we buy wool as cheap as we can get it. Nothing that is made is sold.
We donate to any charity in Australia that asks, Sorry again that we can't help you.

I have supported children charities in kenya.i have come across much talent among the women who can make carpets, sweaters and anything on wool. They lack capital.Iam thinking of someone who can provide capital to make use of this great talent in kenya for purposes of donating to the needy kids.walela.john@hotmail.com

I have just found and joined this site.  I have quite a few small pieces of (new) cotton material offcuts - most are able to cut out a min.12cm square, with some pieces  up to .25m x  110cm. Also pellon offcuts 36cm x 10-20cm.  Are these useful for anyone? I can post the items (I am in Wondai QLD).

With Karen's blessing, we now have a branch of the group in Toowoomba - still under Karen's jurisdiction and control - enabling Darling Downs and environs knitters and crocheters to help the needy in their immediate area.

We need not only knitters, crocheters, and people who sew, but we need to be pointed in the right direction for contacting the organisations that help the less fortunate. soup Kitchens,.refuges for both women and men, anyone who will accept our knitted and other items and NOT sell them for profit but give them directly to those in need.

I would appreciate any contacts eith er by email
yobrien1@optusnet.com.au
or by phone 07 45282543 in Toowoomba.

Yvett

Hi there.  On June 9 2008 Wendy wanted any quantities of 'thicker' 8 ply, stating that she would show why on the Friday. I doubt that I could get to Beenleigh Knit'N'Natter and I'm fascinated as to what can be done with small quantities of wool. My Mother and I have lots, you see, and whilst I love to make small items, I would also like to know how to use up those odd bits of yarn.
Wendy, are you able to describe how you use the yarn or would it be preferable to demonstrate? Cheers
Janeene

I recently donated some wool, but wonder if you have any patterns you can share. I have over an hour on the bus to travel to and from work and can put this time to good use by knitting, so would send you finished articles when I can.

Hi Gail,
Thankyou for your kind words. In the time you have been a member you have personally donated so many beautifully made items that have been passed onto many grateful recipients.
So, like all the other members, you are making a difference to the lives of the less fortunate.
Thanks again Gail. karen

Hello everyone,
My name is Gail I live at Gympie & I am proud to say I am a member of the wonderful group, which I joined in mid June Due to being a carer for my mum I am unable to attend any of the functions, K&Ns etc you all have. But I enjoy doing knitting  when I have time which is mainly at night, I sit in bed watch TV & do my knitting.
I feel so proud to know that each & one of us including husbands, fathers, parners etc are also involved in one way or another, some of the men do knit while others assist by helping collecting / delivering donations, driving others etc to the functions, helping at gatherings that are held. also may I also say to the men who may not be active in doing some of this work, I would like to say still a thankyou to the men who allow / support the women do what we are doing whether it be knitting, sewing, crochet or anyother craft work or collecing itms to make up bags for the neeedy , I feel that they should also be thanked their support is there in a round about form . With out all of these people & ourselves the needy would not be getting the items they need to keep warm when times are hard & cold.
Well I hope that all makes sense, it is just haow I feel about everything & just want to get on my little soap box & say "Thank You to EveryOne"
Regards & love to one & all
Gail

Congratulations Karen & your team!!  I have been knitting blankets (squares 50x50stsX56 squares) for two years... something to do on our 12hours drives to Sydney to visit our daughter & grandkids, Layne(5.5) & Sam(3.5).  Do you have guidelines for measurements of Adult/Child/Cot Blankets, pram covers, knee rugs etc.. Can't tdo 'fancy stuff' but can follow patterns for Beanies, Scarves, Feather Scarves, Premmie Baby Clothes(what is needed for these? Doll-sized dresses or.....? ).  Are Blankets from stores such as The Warehouse acceptable?  and can these also be cut up for animals at the RSPCA?  Your advice please, Karen & Angela.  Also, is Beenleigh Library my nearest group... I live at Sunnybank Hills.... Thanks for all your wonderful work.

Read of your group in C-M today.  Good to know such a group is in action.  I need an address to which to post some garments, and I would appreciate any 8-ply which is excess, for someone else.

Hi, I read about your group in a patchwork magazine and tried to join on your old website. I'm delighted with your new webpage and have just joined the group. I have a number of items to give you for distribution. Could you please advise me of how to get these items to you? Is there a group that meets in inner Brisbane? I would like to meet some new friends who enjoy creating as much as I do. Thanks Karen for caring so much.

Hi ladies,
I came across your project when watching the Channel 10 news tonight.  The ladies were from the Zillmere group.
I can no longer knit due to arthritis, however, I have a large quantity of wool which I would be pleased to donate for others to knit.
Could you let me know if you are interested, and if so, how to go about making this donation.  I live on the Gold Coast.
Look forward to positive reply.
Regards,Bev Hulme

Sorry have just seen your comment re wool to give away. We would dearly love it, it would be put to very good use. We have a few members on the Gold Coast and one of the ladies, Norma, is having a knit and natter on Saturday 19th July. She is at Carrara, so if thats convenient for you, you could either come along on the day (from 10 am) or drop it off to her. Otherwise can arrange pickup from you.
Please email me on
kcroke@bigpond.net.au so we can organise something and/or I can give you Norma's address.
Thanks again,

Hi
Does anybody know when the news letter page will be working on here ?

Date:June 06 2008

The reason the newsletter page isn't working yet, is that, with all that has been going on with the group and personally, I haven't yet written the newest newsletter, therefore haven't been able to get it to our website manager, Mario.
Hopefully as things settle down this week, will be able to get it written and then Mario can add it!
Sorry the delay in this happening, entirely my fault!
